Vegan Grapefruit Lip Scrub

February 28, 2018

I love to try to pamper myself whenever I can, and the best way I can do this is by doing it at home. It’s cheaper, I can use the same product more often, and I love knowing exactly what is going into the product I’m putting on my body. So today I’m going to show you how to make a super simple lip scrub. If there is one thing I hate more than anything it is having chapped lips. I hate it in the winter and the summer and all the seasons between. Chapped lips are one thing I struggle with, but to combat that I use an exfoliator for my lips. Exfoliation is great for your skin because it takes off all the dead skin and reveals the new growth underneath, and lip scrubs are so easy to make. I have made a variety of  lip scrubs (more variations will be posted soon), but after finishing an episode of the new Queer Eye on Netflix I decided to try out their recipe for a lip scrub. I loved it and I think you will too.

Now with this scrub, I try to do this at night before I go to bed and then I apply a chapstick that does not have water in the ingredients. You could use for example, Aquaphor; though I use Hurraw chapstick. The one thing that we don’t want to do after this scrub is to lick our lips. Though the scrub may be tasty, our saliva contains bacteria that dries out our skin making it more chapped and dry, so remember to keep your lips moisturized with chapstick. You can also use coconut oil to keep your lips moisturized daily as well.

To apply this scrub, grab a spoon or your clean hands and rub the scrub on your lips. Do this for about a minute and you will most definitely get the dead skin off your lips. Then swipe off with water or a slightly damp washcloth and immediately apply your desired chapstick. By applying this at night I wake up with softer lips, it also doesn’t make my lips look as red in the morning. This scrub is great because when I want to apply my matte lipstick my lips actually look smooth rather than the hot mess they were looking before the scrub. I would not suggest doing this every night, scrubs are great to do but you can over exfoliate and that will not feel that great, so I say use this at most two to three times a week. Also I would highly recommend putting your scrub in a clean recycled jar, so you can use this product again and again. Check out this super simple recipe below to find out how I made my lip scrub.

Grapefruit Lip Scrub

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp Brown Sugar

1 Tbsp Melted Coconut oil

2 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil ((optional) but I used Young Living’s Grapefruit oil)

2 small bowls

Small container to store your scrub

Directions:

  1. In a bowl or container put your brown sugar and add a few drops of grapefruit oil

  2. In your separate small bowl microwave your coconut oil for 10 seconds and combine with your brown sugar and grapefruit oil

  3. Add this to a small container, let cool down and apply!

Note: You can also add agave to this recipe, it will add an extra layer of nutrients. If you do this I would add just 1 tsp to the mix.

A moisturized and fresh lip is a happy lip, I hope you enjoyed this super simple beauty tip. The best part about it is, as always it’s vegan! Remember to follow me on instagram @abohemianvegan
