Vegan Fried Cauliflower

February 28, 2018

Whenever I’m craving something fried, I try to make it with a vegetable. I feel like even though I’m indulging, I am still eating something that is better for my body. Most often I love to roast my vegetables because I can just use the oven to make my food and I don’t have to worry about over adding oil. Although when I do fry with oil, I use extra virgin olive oil. The reason for this is that it is filled with omega fatty acids, as well as vitamins E and K. The omega fatty acids are good for your brain function, they are also good for lowering your risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Extra virgin olive oil, is one of the healthier oils but it is important to make sure you use this in moderation.

That is where this wonderful fried cauliflower recipe comes into place. This recipe is all fried with less of the guilt and it tastes amazing. The tender cauliflower is really great to sink your teeth into, and the flavors add a kick, especially the old bay spice. We also use a twice dipped breading method that gives this cauliflower a little more texture and enhances those wonderful spices we have in our dry mixture. This twice dipped method also helps bind the wet and dry mixture better rather than having a thin layer of breading. The best part about out this that this has the crunch like fried chicken, but doesn’t harm animals in any way. I make this for dinner mostly, but you can most definitely have this as a finger food at a party or any other gatherings. With our final product, Emanuel and I love to add our own spicy ranch into the mix for an extra boost of heat, we will have more on that simple recipe below.

Vegan Fried Cauliflower

Prep Time: 10 Minutes    Cook time 20 Minutes     Total Time 30 Minutes

Ingredients:

1 Head of Cauliflower

Dry Ingredients:

½ tsp Onion powder

½ tsp Garlic

½ tsp Cayenne pepper

½ tsp Old bay

½ tsp Pepper

½ tsp  Salt

¼ tsp Chipotle pepper

¼ tsp Rosemary

¼ tsp Thyme

¼ tsp Paprika

1 tbsp Nutritional yeast

1 cup Flour

1 tbsp Cornstarch

Wet Ingredients:

½ cup Buffalo Sauce

½ cup Dairy free alternative milk (I used Rice Milk)

1-2 cups Oil (depending on the pan side)

Directions:

  1. Cut your cauliflower into florets shaped pieces

  2. Mix your dry ingredients into one bowl and your wet ingredients into another.

  3. Heat your oil to 350 degrees at a medium high heat.

  4. To coat the cauliflower, I like to do the double dip method that my family liked to do with their fried foods. In order to do this you need to choose one hand to be dedicated to the wet bowl and the other to the dry bowl. Then dip your cauliflower floret into the wet bowl and then the coat the floret in the dry bowl. Repeat this process once more wet mixture to dry mixture, and place in your pan with oil

  5. Cook your florets until golden brown and place on a plate with two paper towels on it to help dry the excess oil

Then simply enjoy!

We like to make an additional spicy ranch sauce! To do this you just use dairy free ranch (our favorite brand here) and mix it with hot sauce or Buffalo sauce. This will most definitely kick up the heat on your cauliflower, which is a great extra enhancement to the flavor. Though you can also just dip ranch in your florets as well!

I hope you enjoyed this recipe and that you try it out! Until next time,

Peace and love,

Yhanni
