Golden Milk Latte
Saturday mornings are a big self-care day for me. I typically give my body extra time to rest before I calmly shuffle myself out of bed, and find my way to the kitchen after feeding my cats, Vessie and Janus. During the weekend, I often find myself testing out new recipes, making more batches of kombucha, and making myself a golden latte. It’s a ritual I love because I can slow down, make this drink and kind of pause the world around me for just a moment. If you don’t know what a Golden Latte is, it’s a wonderful calming drink made with plant-based milk, agave, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and a little black pepper. I love to have this drink to start my day because it is so comforting.
Turmeric has many health benefits when curcumin, an anti-inflammatory component in turmeric is activated. Turmeric can help with our brain function. It also helps with aging, inflammation, and can reduce arthritis. According to research, curcumin is best activated with black pepper. This spice helps the curcumin to get absorbed in our bloodstream.
This drink is extremely simple to make and takes less than 10 minutes from start to finish. I like having this on my days off because I can take my time drinking it and savor the experience. I also like to make this drink over the stove which means I get to give a little more time and care to the process. As I mentioned earlier I get to pause the world. From adding the plant-based milk to whisking in the ingredients. It’s just as healing as the ingredients within it. After I am done making this drink, I pour it into my favorite yellow mug, then I make our Saturday morning breakfast meal tofu scramble and enjoy time with Emanuel and my cats.
The Golden Latte is not just reserved for the mornings. This drink is great for any time. I like to also have this drink at night when I’m curled up in a blanket and working on my various creative projects. It is also a lovely midday pick me up, especially on cold and rainy days when I just want a little sunshine. So start your day, pick up your afternoon and wind down your evenings with a little comfort of sunshine from the Golden latte.
