About a year ago my husband Emanuel switched to a vegan lifestyle, after seeing how many options there were and stayed vegan seeing many positive changes in his health. Since his awesome switch, we have recreated many foods he enjoyed before but made them meatless. For him seeing how you can recreate a food he used to enjoy but positively helps the planet really makes him feel good that he has chosen this lifestyle. Recently we took a trip and had an awesome Vegan Philly “Cheesesteak”, Emanuel was immediately in love and I knew I had to recreate this meal. So today I’m giving you the Philly-Style Mushroom Sub!
This sub is filled with flavor, easy to make and absolutely delicious. I love to add Follow Your Heart cheese into my sandwich to make sure that it really holds the flavor together. My favorite sauce to add is vegan mayo ketchup. It will give your sandwich just the taste its looking for. Philly-Style Mushroom Sub
Serves: 4 Prep Time: 10 Minutes Cook Time 20 Minutes Total Time: 30 Minutes
1 Green Pepper Chopped
1 tbsp Oil
2 ½ cups Chopped Portobello Mushrooms
¼ cup Onions Sliced
2 Slices of Follow Your Heart Provolone Cheese
4 Sub Rolls
¼ tsp Cayenne Powder
1 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Onion Powder
¼ tsp Pepper
¼ tsp Salt
1 tbsp Veganaise
1 tbsp Ketchup
In a on medium heat, cook down your mushrooms, onions and green peppers.
Add in cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and salt.
After everything is cooked down and combined, melt Provolone slices on to the mushroom mixture.
Assemble your subs with mayo-ketchup and enjoy!
