Updated: Jan 20, 2020
When I want to spice things up in the kitchen with my tofu I like to get creative, but also to try amp up my tofu recipes as much as possible everytime. Thats where this Buffalo Tofu Sandwich makes its fiery entrance. Created from hungry mouths that had a taste for something spicy, this sandwich is packed heavy with the spices you love with a crunch that will have you wanting more. And of course we couldn’t create this sandwich without adding our favorites paprika and old bay, which are crowd pleasers in my household. This sandwich is great with my favorite sauce, texas ranch (dairy free of course). My favorite part is you can make this for your friends and they won’t even flinch knowing that it’s “tofu”. Making this great for just dinner or to make at a party to wow your friends and family!
Emanuel and I love to try things with our tofu, there is are so many tasty possibilities that you can achieve with not even a whole block. Which is why I wanted to give you this recipe for a spicy buffalo sandwich. We love the simplicity of this recipe and the flavor you get from it.Tofu is made from soybeans and comes in a few different textures, soft, firm or extra firm. (I’ll have a more indepth post on this coming soon to give a full tutorial on tofu types and uses). It is also packed with protein. Although the cool part about tofu is that it is like a sponge, as long as you marinate or give it the seasonings you want it you will have the flavor you put into it. The fact that it is so versatile makes many vegans and vegetarians stocking up their fridge just so that they can use this staple in a dish or two. But in the meantime let me tell you how to create this wonderful sandwich!

Buffalo Tofu Sandwich
Ingredients
½ block of extra firm tofu
1 cup oil
Dry Ingredients:
½ tsp Onion powder
½ tsp Garlic
½ tsp Cayenne pepper
1 tsp Old bay
½ tsp Pepper
½ tsp Salt
¼ tsp Chipotle pepper
1 tsp Paprika
1 tbsp Nutritional yeast
1/2 cup Flour
Toppings:
Vegan Bun
Lettuce
3 tbsp Vegan Ranch (I found this at walmart)
1 tsp Texas Pete
Directions:
Cut your block in half wrapping one half in a sandwich bag for later use, and put the other half of your tofu block on a cutting board and press out the water with a couple paper towels. You want your block to be a little moist but not soaking wet.
Cut your pressed block length ways to make your two “patties”
Combine your dry ingredients in a small bowl
Coat your tofu on all sides with the dry ingredients and with your oil at about 350 degrees, Carefully put the tofu in
Cook until golden brown on all sides
Place on a plate with a couple napkins to drain excess oil
For sauce: Mix Texas Pete and Ranch together in a bowl
This is served best on a lightly toasted vegan bun with vegan texas ranch or just vegan ranch and lettuce! Enjoy
